Fiona read Law at Brunel University and then attended the Guildford College of Law where she obtained her postgraduate diploma Legal Practice Certificate. Fiona joined Paul Robinson Solicitors LLP in October 2002 having qualified as a Solicitor (June 2001) at a commercial firm in Bournemouth.
Fiona Colwell is a Member and Head of the Civil Litigation Department. Fiona has a predominantly company/commercial caseload, dealing with disputes for a variety of clients. Fiona also deals with partnership disputes, construction law disputes and intellectual property matters, including trademark infringement cases. In undertaking such work, Fiona has experience of dealing with all aspects of civil litigation cases, having been involved in successfully applying for High Court injunctions and undertaking County Court cases, at all stages, from commencement to Judgment. Fiona is also keen to promote the Court's desire to seek to settle matters without them progressing too far at Court and as such, Fiona has experience of dealing with Mediations and generally negotiating settlements between parties.
Fiona has particular expertise in Insolvency Law - both personal and corporate insolvency and acts for a variety of clients, including individuals, businesses and Insolvency Practitioners. Advice is provided in respect of both contentious and non-contentious matters.
Fiona successfully passed the Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency (CPI) examination in 2006 and has just recently passed the Personal Insolvency paper of the Joint Insolvency Examinations Board (JIEB) examinations in 2007. She is a student member of both the Insolvency Practitioners Association and of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3). Fiona is an associate member of the Insolvency Lawyers Association.
Fiona also deals with Licensing Law cases and regularly makes applications for both Premises and Personal Licences, together with other ancillary applications, for a whole range of business enterprises and also provides advice on such matters. She has experience of matters reaching hearings at the Local Authority level and also appeals to the Magistrates Court, on particularly contested applications.
Fiona also deals with Planning Law and especially cases where the applications have reached the states of Planning Appeal Inquiries at the relevant Local Authority.
