Anica Holderness - Litigation DepartmentFriday, 26th March 2010
I have recently completed my first seat within the Criminal Department which has involved spending a lot of time at both the Magistrates Court and Crown Court. I even had the opportunity to attend the Old Bailey for a week to clerk a trial, at which our client was acquitted.
I have been working towards my police station accreditation. Once accredited I will be able to attend to clients who have been arrested and are being held at the police station giving them initial advice and guiding them through the police station process.
I am currently undertaking my second seat within the Civil Litigation Department. I have recently carried out work within the pre action protocol for a personal injury claim. I have also attended a number of meetings with new and existing clients, taking instructions and drafting letters to initiate pre action negotiations between parties as well as initiating claims at county court level.
The work carried out within the department is extremely varied covering landlord and tenant, insolvency, partnership disputes, company disputes and employment matters among others. I have drafted instructions to counsel and have carried out legal research for different fee earners within the department. I have attended the local county court, as advocate, to represent the claimant in a matter where they were successful in seeking a final charging order over a property
